What is European Roulette?

Blaise Pascal, a French physicist, and mathematician invented the roulette wheel while inventing the perpetual motion machine. The roulette wheel didn’t have the zero – Francois and Lois Blanc added the zero in the mid-19th century when they redesigned the wheel for King Charles III of Monaco.  The addition of a zero gave the house a bigger edge.

King Charles III of Monaco built a casino and introduced the roulette wheel to generate income for its ailing kingdom. The invention of the single zero roulette wheels coincides with France has outlawing gambling, making Monte Carlo a more desirable gambling destination.

European Roulette Wheel Layout

The European roulette table has 37 pockets. It features a single zero–green color, and the rest are numbered 1 to 36. Number pockets face the wheel’s inner part; they are random and are in two colors – 18 red and 18 black. The colored pockets alternate; a pair of even numbers follows a pair of odd numbers. Numbers 1 to 18 are “lows” while 19 to 36 are “highs.”

Each side of the zero pockets is 18 pockets. On the right, you’ll get nine black (low) and 9 (high) red. You’ll find 9 (high) black, followed by 9 (low) red numbers on the left.

The entire number sequence on the wheel in clockwise sequence:

0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, 25, 17, 34, 6, 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16, 33, 1, 20, 14, 31, 9, 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26

The table layout is in two sections corresponding to the two major bet types you can play – inner and outer bets.

Placing your Bets

It’s pretty easy to play European roulette – players predict the numbered pocket that the spinning ball is likely to settle in. So, players make a bet on a particular number(s) and place their stake as a bet.

The dealer spins the wheel counterclockwise and the ball clockwise. The ball spins and eventually finds its way into a pocket, then the respective player(s) get paid.

European roulette rules

When playing online, place your chips on your bet point and press spin to signify a betting is on. When the round is over, you can place another bet by pressing the Rebet button or Clear bet.

In brick and mortar casino, four people run the roulette – 2 croupiers who handle bets and spin the ball, a ”table-end” and ”game supervisor” who ensures that the game runs smoothly.

The roulette table accommodates 1 to 8 players, and the game begins when the croupier calls the players to place bets.

The croupiers spin the wheel, followed by the ball. When the ball has about two revolutions to go, the croupiers announce – no more bets. All bets after here are disregarded.

When the ball settles into any 37 pockets, the croupier identifies them and announces the winner. All winning bets are paid.

European roulette bet types

Outside bets are bets on outside numbers on the betting tables. You can bet on results being red, black, odd, even, or any of the numbers; 1-12, 12-24, 25-36, and the three columns. These bets allow you to quickly cover the table and increase the odds of winning. They have a lower risk but with a lower payout.

Red/Black and Odd/Even bets pay 1:1 while High/Low bets pay out even money or 1 to 1. By contrast, Column bet and dozen bet payout 2 to 1.

Inside bets are bets placed on the area inside the numbers on the table, where players place their chips. Inside bets have somewhat higher chances of losing but with possible higher payouts. You can place the bets on specific numbers or number combinations within the betting grid.

European Roulette Strategies

Tips And Strategies To Play European Roulette

A player has very little control over the outcome of the wheel spin, so you need to apply some strategies.

Insides Bets are Risky
Though inside bets have higher payouts, they have a higher risk of losing. If you often play these bets, you might lose more money in a very short time. Always spread your bets on the table to increase your chances of winning.

Start With Outside Bets
Outside bets offer the best chances of winning, though the payouts are lower than inside bets. However, if you want to stay longer in the game, it’s advisable to balance your bets between the low-risk and high-risk bets – this is a clear European Roulette strategy.

Checkout Available Roulette Betting Systems
Experts have developed betting systems like Paroli and Martingale to help players bet the wheel. While they may offer insights based on the previous actions, they are not 100% accurate. Try each to find the one working for you.

Manage Your Bankroll
Instead of entirely relying on strategies that experts invent, begin with managing your money. How much are you ready to put on the line? Determine the amount and stick to it. Beyond that, have a clear and focused mind.

Useful tips for Beginners

New players need a heads-up in roulette. Some helpful tips include:

Spread Your Bets
Spreading your bets gives you equal action on the entire table. You can place two bets with an equal amount. For instance, you can put two outside bets – one on even money and the other on dozen (2:1 payout).

Play the online free version
A free-play action of roulette games offers you an opportunity to learn the rules of the game. These games familiarize you with various strategies and practices to win bets. However, you need to sign up at a licensed casino to get more standard games and when you feel ready, then start to play with real money.

Let some decisions pass
Playing more means benefiting the casino, and playing less is better for you. This should be basic for any casino player. Therefore, do not participate in all decisions. Now and then, sit out a decision; this reduces the hit of house edge on your bankroll.
If the number you selected shows up again, don’t panic. European roulette is a random game, and they are bound to happen.

Conclusion

European roulette is a fantastic wheel game. It comes with pretty straightforward rules that even new players can learn and start playing in minutes. However, getting wins at roulette means practicing more often and applying handy strategies.

Whether you select inside or outside bets, your experience and commitment level, approach flexibility, and wagering requirements play a crucial role. Some systems might help you win, but that isn’t a guarantee. Otherwise, have a focused head and balance your bets.
